How we check
While this page is open, your browser checks every 15 seconds—four times a minute. It requests the trading API at api.elections.kalshi.com/trade-api/v2: /exchange/status, /markets?limit=1, and /events?limit=1. It also checks the Kalshi website at kalshi.com.
Each request has a six-second timeout. A failed connection or timeout counts as a failed check, and any failed endpoint changes the verdict to “Service Disruption.” A successful request confirms reachability; it does not prove that orders, deposits, or settlements are working.
Kalshi’s browser checks use no-CORS requests, which hide the HTTP status and response body. We therefore cannot detect HTTP errors such as 5xx responses, read exchange or trading flags, or reliably distinguish a degraded service from a full outage. A slow response below six seconds is shown as latency, not a separate degraded verdict.
Checks run from your browser, not a central monitoring server. A blocked network, VPN, firewall, or local connection problem can produce a false “down” result. Compare another connection and Kalshi’s official status updates before concluding that the exchange is down.

Common Kalshi issues
- Deposits stuck in 'processing'
ACH and debit funding rails can lag behind the trading engine. The exchange API will look green here while your balance hasn't updated.
- Order book frozen on big news
Around Fed announcements, jobs reports and election calls, Kalshi may pause individual markets for orderly trading. Other markets stay live.
- Mobile app login loops
App-side session bugs can persist even when the web exchange is healthy. Force-quit and reopen, or sign in via the web client.
- App stuck on loading screen
Force-close and update the app, then try the web client or a different connection if loading still stalls.
- Deposit pending or failed
Check the deposit’s status and processing window before retrying; contact Kalshi support if it fails or remains pending beyond that window.
- Two-factor code not arriving
Confirm the delivery method and contact details, check spam or blocked messages, and use Kalshi’s account recovery if the code still does not arrive.
- Market not resolving
Read the market’s resolution rules and expected timing, then contact Kalshi support if settlement is overdue.
- Order rejected as insufficient funds despite a visible balance
Buying power can lag after a deposit; refresh and confirm available buying power—not just the displayed balance—before submitting again.
Background
Kalshi was co-founded by Tarek Mansour and Luana Lopes Lara out of MIT, and after a multi-year approval process became the first federally regulated event-contract exchange in the US in 2021. In late 2024 a federal court cleared Kalshi to list event contracts on US elections, opening the door to a much broader product suite.
