How to Fix Kalshi App Issues: Login, Location & Trading Errors

Most Kalshi app problems trace back to five root causes. Here's how to diagnose and fix each one — starting with checking whether the exchange itself is actually down.

Last updated September 3, 2026

Start by checking Kalshi's own service announcements and comparing the app with the website. The browser checks at kalshi.health provide supporting reachability information, but cannot confirm whether trading, login, or an individual account is working. Note the error message before trying device-specific troubleshooting.

Step 0 — Check whether Kalshi itself is down

Check Kalshi's own service announcements before diagnosing an outage. The checks on kalshi.health run from your browser and reflect that browser's connection to the tested endpoints. A failed check can result from your network, browser restrictions, a timeout, or a service problem; it does not prove a platform-wide incident. A successful check does not establish that login, deposits, or trading work. Compare the app with the website, note the time and error message, and contact Kalshi support if an account or transaction issue persists.

Geolocation verification failures

Kalshi must verify you are physically located in an eligible US jurisdiction before it lets you trade. Location errors are the single most common login blocker.

  • Disable any VPN, proxy, or iCloud Private Relay before opening the app — these mask your real location and trigger an automatic block.
  • On mobile, grant the Kalshi app precise-location permission in your OS settings; approximate location is often rejected.
  • On desktop, allow browser location access when prompted and make sure Wi-Fi is on — IP-only geolocation is less accurate and fails more often.
  • If you're near a state border, move away from it and retry; GPS drift can place you in a restricted state by a few hundred meters.
  • If you recently traveled, fully close and reopen the app so the location check re-runs fresh.

WebSocket connection drops and stale prices

Live order-book prices stream over a WebSocket connection. When prices freeze, the order book stops updating, or you see a reconnecting banner, the WebSocket is dropping.

  • Switch networks — move from Wi-Fi to cellular or vice versa. Some corporate and campus firewalls block WebSocket traffic entirely.
  • Disable aggressive ad blockers or privacy extensions for kalshi.com; a few filter lists incorrectly flag the streaming endpoint.
  • Restart the app. The WebSocket client re-authenticates on launch, which clears expired session tokens that cause silent drops.
  • If drops happen only during major news events, the exchange may be under heavy load — check kalshi.health for API degradation before assuming it's your connection.

Pending or missing deposits

ACH deposits are not instant. A deposit showing as pending is usually the banking rail, not the exchange.

  • Standard ACH transfers take 1–3 business days to clear; weekends and bank holidays don't count.
  • Debit-card deposits are typically credited faster but can still be held for fraud review on first use.
  • If a deposit exceeds its stated window, check your bank for a reversed or rejected transfer — insufficient funds and name mismatches are the top reversal causes.
  • Contact Kalshi support with the deposit ID if a transfer has been pending more than 5 business days.

API 403 and 500 errors

If you use the Kalshi API directly (or a third-party tool built on it), HTTP error codes tell you where the failure lives.

  • 403 Forbidden almost always means an authentication problem: an expired API key, a clock skew between your machine and Kalshi's servers, or a signature computed with the wrong secret. Regenerate your API credentials and sync your system clock first.
  • 429 means you're rate-limited — back off and add exponential retry delays instead of hammering the endpoint.
  • 500/502/503 errors are server-side. Retry with backoff, and check kalshi.health: a cluster of 5xx responses usually coincides with a visible status incident.
  • Never retry non-idempotent order-placement calls blindly after a 5xx — query the order first to avoid duplicate fills.

Clearing cache and reinstalling the app

Corrupted local state causes a long tail of weird symptoms: blank screens, stale balances, buttons that don't respond. A clean cache fixes most of them.

  • On iOS: offload the app (Settings → General → iPhone Storage → Kalshi → Offload App), then reinstall — this preserves your login while clearing cached data.
  • On Android: Settings → Apps → Kalshi → Storage → Clear Cache (use Clear Data only as a last resort, since it signs you out).
  • On web: hard-refresh with Ctrl/Cmd+Shift+R, or clear site data for kalshi.com in your browser settings.
  • After reinstalling, log in fresh and re-verify your location before trading.

When to contact Kalshi support

If you've confirmed the exchange is up on kalshi.health, worked through the fixes above, and the problem persists, it's time to escalate. Gather your account email, the exact error message, a screenshot, and the approximate time (with timezone) the issue started — support can match that against server logs. For anything touching money (stuck withdrawals, disputed settlements), include the transaction or contract ID. Kalshi's status page and official support channel are linked from the exchange's help center.

FAQ

How do I fix Kalshi geolocation errors?
Enable precise location permissions in your browser or device settings, disable VPNs or proxy services, and ensure Wi-Fi is toggled on to improve location accuracy for CFTC compliance checks.
Why is my Kalshi order stuck or failing?
Check kalshi.health for live exchange status. If API services are operational, refresh your session, clear app cache, check your buying power balance, and verify contract price collars.
What should I do if Kalshi app is down?
Check Kalshi's own service announcements, record the error and time, and compare the app with the website. A failed browser check alone does not establish an outage. Contact Kalshi through its official support channels if the issue persists or concerns your account or a transaction.
How do I know if Kalshi is down or it's just me?
Use the browser checks as one clue, alongside Kalshi's own service announcements and the actual app or website error. Green means only that the tested check succeeded; red can reflect a local connection problem or a service problem. Neither result alone can distinguish an account-specific issue from a platform-wide incident.
Why does Kalshi say my location can't be verified?
Location failures are almost always caused by VPNs, proxies, or iCloud Private Relay masking your true position. Disable all of them, grant the app precise-location permission, and keep Wi-Fi enabled for accurate geolocation. Being physically near a state border can also cause GPS drift into a restricted jurisdiction.
Why are my Kalshi prices frozen or not updating?
Frozen prices mean the WebSocket streaming connection has dropped. Switch networks (Wi-Fi to cellular), disable ad blockers on kalshi.com, and restart the app to force a fresh authenticated stream. If it only happens during major news events, the exchange may be under heavy load.
How long do Kalshi deposits take to clear?
Standard ACH deposits take 1–3 business days, excluding weekends and bank holidays. Debit-card deposits are faster but can be held for review on first use. If a deposit is pending beyond 5 business days, check your bank for a reversal and contact Kalshi support with the deposit ID.
What does a 403 error from the Kalshi API mean?
A 403 almost always indicates an authentication failure: an expired or revoked API key, clock skew on your machine breaking the request signature, or a signature computed with the wrong secret. Regenerate your API credentials and sync your system clock before anything else.
Will clearing the app cache delete my Kalshi account or funds?
No. Your account, balance, and positions live on Kalshi's servers, not on your device. Clearing cache or reinstalling only removes local data — you'll need to log back in and re-verify your location, but nothing on the account is affected.
